Abhijit Deepak, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, has fallen ill while protesting at Jantar Mantar in the Indian capital, New Delhi. On the social-media platform X he said he had been continuing the protest on painkillers despite a high fever and body aches. Although taking a break for a short rest, he announced he would return to the protest stage by Thursday evening, NDTV reported.
Abhijit Deepak and other protesters are continuing their movement demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Expressing strong anger at the police baton charge and tear gas fired at protesters on Wednesday night, he accused the police of brutality. Police, for their part, claimed the crowd threw stones and bottles at them as it advanced towards Parliament Street.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a fast-track court to ensure strict punishment for those involved in the paper leak. In a post on X he said the government is committed to protecting the future of the country’s young people and that no one involved in the incident will be spared. Senior leaders of the ruling NDA and the BJP have fully backed his decision.
