Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Muslim countries’ economic size is small relative to their population and geostrategic position in the world, calling for greater cooperation in this area. Pezeshkian made the call in an address at the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, held in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

Pezeshkian emphasized unity among Muslim nations despite their differences.

He said the 57 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stretching from Southeast Asia to Africa, sit “at the center of vital sea and land routes, with energy resources, a young population and a vast market.”

He further said only 19 percent of member states’ exports remain within the group, with the rest going to countries outside the OIC. He called for increasing trade among Muslim countries.
