Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, an opposition member of parliament, challenged the government on Thursday over the deaths of hundreds of children from a measles epidemic, demanding to know why the health minister had not offered a resignation.

Speaking during the national budget discussion in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday (June 25), Dr. Masud asked: “After 300 children have died, where is the minister’s resignation?” He said the deaths represented a public health failure that demanded ministerial accountability from the health ministry.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram was in the chair during the session.
