Five more children die of measles

Five more children have died of measles in the country in the past 24 hours. In the same period, 920 people were affected by measles symptoms and 172 were confirmed with measles, bringing the number of new measles patients to 1,092. By official count, a total of 771 children have died since 15 March — 95 of them confirmed measles deaths and the remaining 676 from measles symptoms. A total of 1,28,071 children have been affected so far.

The information was given in a press release from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday.

The release said that from 15 March to 8 a.m. on 15 July, 1,14,164 children had been found with suspected measles symptoms, and 13,907 children had been confirmed with measles. During this period, 96,878 children were admitted to hospital with measles symptoms, and 93,260 recovered and were discharged.

Of the five children who died of measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, four were from Dhaka division and one from Mymensingh division, the Directorate said. In the same period, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of measles-symptom patients at 398, of whom 65 were confirmed with measles.
