Six more children die with measles symptoms, taking toll to 873

Six children have died with measles symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours. Over the same period, 1,063 children were infected with measles or measles symptoms.

The information was given on Sunday (9 August) afternoon in the health directorate’s updated measles report.

The notice said six more children had died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, but no child had died of confirmed measles in that period.

With this, a total of 775 children have died with measles symptoms across the country from 15 March to now, and another 98 children have died of confirmed measles — that is, 873 children in all have died of measles or its symptoms in this period.

In the past 24 hours, 75 children were infected with measles and the number of patients with measles symptoms was 988. Over the same period, 938 children were newly admitted to hospital and 942 were discharged.

Health directorate data show that from 15 March to now the total number of suspected measles patients is 136,320 and the number of confirmed measles patients is 17,115. Of these, a total of 118,382 patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 114,142 have already returned home after discharge.
