A clash broke out among students at Habiganj Medical College’s hostel over a dispute between senior and junior students, leaving at least 15 people injured on both sides.

The clash occurred Wednesday night, August 19, at the medical college hostel in the city’s Anantapur residential area. Tension has persisted among hostel students in the aftermath.

Three of the injured have been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The others are being treated at Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital. Students said the clash began with a heated argument between Tafsir and Sharif Uddin over a senior-junior issue at the hostel. There had reportedly already been internal tension between them. At one point, the two split into groups and clashed using iron rods, stumps and other improvised weapons. At least 15 students were injured as a result.

The injured include Habiganj Medical College students Tasrif Ahmed, Sharif Uddin, Rayhan Raj, Rajab Sani, Fardin Ifti, Sami, Riyad, Abdullah Chowdhury, Samiul Al Arif and Hujaf Soumi.

Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Zahidul Haque said police inspected the scene after being alerted. Legal action will be taken following an investigation based on the complaint.
