The former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui has been arrested in the case over the killings at Shapla Chattar.

The Dhaka metropolitan detective branch (DB) arrested him at his home in Gulshan in the capital on Wednesday. The additional commissioner of the Dhaka metropolitan detective branch, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the information.

He said the former textiles and jute minister, Abdul Latif Siddiqui, had been arrested in Gulshan in the capital. The International Crimes Tribunal has already issued an arrest warrant against him.

Earlier, the former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui had said he would surrender in the crimes-against-humanity case filed over the killings surrounding the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.

He had said that if he were not arrested before then, he would surrender at the International Crimes Tribunal on the Sunday or Monday of the coming week and apply for bail.

The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
