A Dhaka court has ordered former Nilphamari-3 MP Ashika Sultana, 46, sent to jail after the completion of her remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Police produced her before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Thursday (July 2) after her three-day remand ended. The investigating officer sought an order to keep her in jail until the investigation is complete.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam ordered her sent to prison.
She had previously been granted two rounds of three-day remand — by Magistrate Monjurul Islam on June 26 and by Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque on June 29.
According to the case, on June 19, members of the banned Awami League and banned Chhatra League gathered near the Bata showroom at Mirpur-1 Apex Bhaban in the capital and marched against the current government as part of a pre-announced program. The gathering caused public alarm, the case stated.
A case was filed at Mirpur Model police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act on the day of the incident.
