A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the northern Odisha-West Bengal coastal region, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said on Thursday (July 2).

Under its influence, gusty or squally winds may blow over the north Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh’s coastal areas. The department directed the Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 3.

The department warned that seas may remain rough and advised fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution.

In its 24-hour forecast, the department said many areas of Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Moderate heavy to very heavy rainfall is also possible in some parts of the country.

Day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged during this period.
