The activities of broker rings that divert patients from government hospitals to private clinics will be stopped permanently, the health and family welfare minister, Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, has said.
He made the remarks on Wednesday at an event releasing the findings of a study, held at the International Mother Language Institute at Segunbagicha in the capital.
The minister said strict surveillance would be applied to stop doctors on duty at government hospitals from sending patients to outside clinics, from ordering tests in exchange for commission, and from commercialised treatment. Criticising irregularities in tendering, the purchase of unnecessary equipment and the waste of public money, he said action was being taken against such corruption.
He also said dialysis services would be expanded in stages to all medical college hospitals and district hospitals in the country. At the same time, health workers will be supplied with AI-enabled kits on a trial basis to take health care into people’s homes.
The health minister also said drives against unnecessary caesarean operations and against private clinics run in breach of the rules would continue.
