522,000 government posts vacant, says public administration deputy minister

Public Administration Deputy Minister Md. Abdul Bari said government offices have 1,986,272 approved posts and 521,922 vacant posts, according to data updated through 2025.

He said the government has already adopted 6-month, 1-year and 5-year action plans to fill these vacancies.

The deputy minister made the remarks in a written reply to a question from reserved women’s seat MP Sabikunnahar during Tuesday’s session of parliament. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bikram presided over the session.

Public Administration Deputy Minister Md. Abdul Bari said that, according to data updated through 2025, government offices have 1,986,272 approved posts and 521,922 vacant posts. The government has already formulated 6-month, 1-year and 5-year action plans to fill these vacancies.

The deputy minister added that, regarding the action plan’s provision to “recruit 500,000 government employees transparently and swiftly,” the public administration ministry has sent letters to other ministries and divisions requesting the latest status of their recruitment processes, information on filling vacant posts, and requisitions for recruitment. All ministries and divisions have also been requested to publish recruitment notices as quickly as possible and formulate action plans for filling vacant posts.
