Fears of a possible deterioration in law and order have arisen at Jagannath University over the announcement of programmes by three different organisations at the same place and time on campus. In this situation, the university administration on Thursday banned all meetings, rallies and processions inside the campus.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by Jagannath University proctor Mohammad Nasir Uddin on Wednesday night.

The notice said that, following the announcement of rallies by three organisations at the same place and time at Jagannath University on Thursday, all meetings, rallies and processions inside the university would be banned until further notice.

Earlier, the Jagannath University unit of Chhatra Dal announced a human chain and protest march in front of the Bhasha Shaheed Rafiq building at 12:30pm on Thursday. The organisation said the programme would protest against what it called the continued “terrorist” activities of Islami Chhatra Shibir nationwide, attacks on students and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists by outside “terrorists” on campus, and mob rule.

At the same time and place, a protest march was announced under the banner of “United Jagannath” against an attack on Jagannath University students by students of Sohrawardy College.

In addition, the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) announced an ambulance-handover event at the Bhasha Shaheed Rafiq building at 12pm on Thursday.
