The body of a 20-year-old man was recovered in the Naldaha Purbapara Lalgola area of Bharara union in Pabna Sadar upazila on Saturday (July 11), after he had come to visit his in-laws’ home, police said. The death is being treated as unexplained pending an autopsy.
Police recovered the body from a pond beside a mosque at around 10 a.m. A cloth was found wrapped around the man’s neck. According to local sources, he had come to his in-laws’ house on Friday and had had an argument with a family member the previous evening.
Police said they believed the man had died by suicide. Pabna Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Tariqul Islam said police had received information at around 2 a.m. but did not find the body when they first reached the scene, and that local people had put the body in the pond; it was seen floating in the morning, after which a police team was sent.
The body was being prepared to be sent to the morgue at Pabna General Hospital for an autopsy, the officer-in-charge said, adding that the incident would be investigated. “The real cause of the death will be known only after that,” he said.
