A rare reunion has unfolded at the Kalipur Chowdhury house in Satnal union of Chandpur’s Matlab Uttar — now the talk of the area as a remarkable homecoming. Delwar Hossain Dulal Chowdhury, who went missing in childhood about 58 years ago, has at last recovered his birth identity, his family and the address of his roots.

According to family sources, Dulal went missing from home around 1969 at the age of five or six. He grew up afterwards in the care of a foster family in the Fatikchhari area of Chattogram, by way of Narayanganj — raised with affection, but with his true identity unknown. Many years later his son, Imam Hossain Akib, began searching for the family’s identity, prompted by social reality and the question of identity. During an ordinary family conversation around Eid-ul-Azha, a few faint clues surfaced from his father’s memory — a river, a launch terminal, Kalipur Bazar, and a name. Following those memories, and with technology — Google Maps, local history and area-based information — an area along the Meghna river in the Chandpur region was identified as the likely place. With the help of local journalists and researchers, contact was established with the Kalipur Chowdhury house.

On reaching Kalipur, Dulal Chowdhury’s childhood memories began to match old landmarks; elders confirmed that the house’s old gate, the canal path, a mango tree and a spot known as the salt-loading ghat had indeed existed many years before, and that a child named Dulal had once gone missing and was never found again. After meeting family members, the blood relationship was fully confirmed — an emotional scene unfolding especially when he met his living brother, Mukul Chowdhury. The 58-year separation broke in moments into tears, emotion and joy across the whole family. Delwar Hossain has now returned to his own family and reconnected with relatives, in what family and locals see both as the end of a long wait and a remarkable human reunion.
