A movement by the youth organisation Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has begun in India over allegations of irregularities in various national exams. Founder Abhijit Deepke has announced the protest will continue until central Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. He said this while speaking to journalists after reaching his home in the MIDC Waluj area of Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Sunday (7 June), according to the Indian outlet The Hindu.

Deepke claimed their protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi had been a success, with about 6,000 to 7,000 people taking part. “We will not step back even one foot from the movement until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns,” he said, adding that there are plans to spread the movement nationwide, with the next programme to be announced soon.

On Saturday, hundreds of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar under the CJP banner, alleging irregularities in various exams and recruitment processes and demanding Pradhan’s resignation, with Deepke urging protesters not to be afraid. At a later press conference, party spokespeople said they would give the central government one week for Pradhan’s removal or voluntary resignation, and that a nationwide movement would begin if no step was taken.
