Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said a documentary without an image of Abu Sayed, whom he described as a symbol of the uprising, could not be considered complete.

He spoke Wednesday at a reception and discussion for bereaved families and July uprising participants organized by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.

Ahmed said it was regrettable that the documentary did not include Abu Sayed and that disruptions at a national event were unfortunate and embarrassing. He said organizers had apologized for inconsistencies in the film but urged people not to create disorder over the issue.

He said ensuring the rights of July uprising participants was one of the government’s key responsibilities, and that it would be shameful if they had to move between ministries to secure those rights.

Ahmed said the government’s central duty was to uphold the aspirations of July uprising participants and work for them. He added that he had fought in the Liberation War at 27 and would, if necessary, fight again at 82 to make public rule and democracy permanent in Bangladesh.
