Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) has begun legal and administrative action against 11 of its teachers accused of involvement in “anti-state” and indiscipline-related activities.

The information came in an urgent notice signed by acting registrar Professor Mohammad Jamal Hossain, with the vice-chancellor’s approval, on Wednesday (5 August).

The notice said that, as part of “anti-state” online activity led by the banned Chhatra League, an organisation called the Bangladesh Public University Progressive Teachers’ Society was accused of spreading misleading information about the country’s constitution, laws, judicial system and state institutions — while demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina, the convicted former prime minister who is an accused in crimes-against-humanity cases — and of damaging the university’s image. The process of seeking explanations from the accused teachers, taking necessary administrative measures including removal from service under the rules, and taking legal action over the alleged anti-state activity had already begun, it said.

The university authorities claim that the 11 teachers, who took part in meetings with Sheikh Hasina on Telegram, Messenger and WhatsApp groups under the organisation’s banner, violated PSTU rules on the conduct and discipline of university staff.

The notice also called on teachers, students, staff and all concerned to abide by the constitution, laws, rules and university discipline, and to play a responsible role in upholding the country’s independence, sovereignty, peace, order and democratic environment.
