Squally or stormy winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour may sweep over 15 districts, including Dhaka, by 1 a.m., the Meteorological Department said. Rain with thunder is also likely in these areas. The information was given in a warning issued for the country’s inland river ports, valid until 1 a.m. on Tuesday (June 16).
The warning said that by 1 a.m., temporary squally or stormy winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour from the south-southeast may blow over Pabna, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet. Rain and thunderstorms may also occur during this time. River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal No. 1.
In another bulletin, the department said the extension of a low-pressure area stretched from the Gangetic West Bengal to the northwest Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is fairly active over the country and weak to moderate elsewhere over the northern Bay of Bengal, it said.
Until Wednesday morning, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, may occur in many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and in some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, the department said. Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur in some places across the country.
During this period, the mild heat wave blowing over Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia and Khulna districts may continue. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country, it said.
