The killing took place on Thursday (18 June) evening in front of Charu Mama’s canteen near Rajshahi Medical College (RaMC).

The man who died was a 32-year-old resident of the Hetemkhan Karigorpara area of the city.

Police arrested the three students in a raid on Friday (19 June) morning.

A police source said several students detained the man on suspicion of theft on Thursday evening and then beat him with cricket stumps, leaving serious injuries to both his hands, both legs and his back. At one point, after he was injured, he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College (RaMC) Hospital at around 8:30 pm, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Police later learned of the matter and began an investigation. An autopsy was carried out on the body at the Rajshahi Medical College morgue on Friday.

Rajpara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad told the media that the man’s sister had filed a murder case against unidentified persons, and that the three Rajshahi Nursing College students had been arrested in that case on Friday morning. He said detailed information about the incident would be released later by the metropolitan police media wing.
