Father and son killed by truck in Rangpur, grandson critically injured

A father and son were killed and a 10-year-old boy was critically injured when their motorcycle was struck by a truck in Rangpur’s Gangachara upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 3 p.m. near the Manthana Bazar Jute Mill in Gangachara.

Eyewitnesses and police said village doctor Nirmal Chandra, 60, of Chengmari village in the upazila, was riding a motorcycle with his son Prashanta Chandra, 40, and 10-year-old grandson Bandhan to attend a wedding in Betgari. A truck struck the motorcycle near the jute mill, killing Nirmal and Prashanta at the scene.

The boy was rescued in critical condition and is being treated in the neurosurgery department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He has not yet regained consciousness.

Police seized the truck and brought it to the station.

Gangachara police station officer-in-charge Abdus Sobur said: “We recovered the bodies and handed them over to the family. The truck has been seized. A case will be filed under the road accident law.”
