To promote environmental protection, climate awareness and a resolve among students to build a green Bangladesh, a “Tree Distribution Programme 2026” was held at International Peace School and College, a well-known institution in Jashore.
At the event on the school campus on Sunday (9 August), more than 300 fruit, timber and medicinal saplings were distributed among students.
The programme, chaired by the institution’s chairman G M Abu Faisal, had Kamal Ahmed, assistant upazila secondary education officer of Jashore Sadar, as chief guest. The school’s principal, Sarafat Hossen, gave the welcome address, and the institution’s cultural teacher, Mujahidul Islam, conducted the event. The Jashore branch’s executive secretary Gausul Azam, director Mostafa Kamal, teachers, students, guardians and invited guests were present.
In his address as chief guest, Kamal Ahmed said there was no alternative to tree planting to protect environmental balance, counter the adverse effects of climate change and build a liveable world for future generations. He urged every student to plant at least one sapling and care for it regularly, and praised such initiatives by educational institutions to build an environment-friendly mindset among students.
In his address as chair, G M Abu Faisal said International Peace School and College was not confined to textbook-based education but regularly carried out creative and public-welfare programmes to build moral values, social responsibility and environmental awareness, expressing a resolve to shape students into patriotic, humane and responsible citizens.
Speakers said the institution had become a name to trust in Jashore for modern, quality, values-based education and co-curricular activities, with its steady efforts to build social and environmental responsibility alongside academic development praised by guardians. After the discussion, the chief guest and other guests handed more than 300 fruit, timber and medicinal saplings to students of various classes, who pledged to plant and care for trees in their own areas.
