India’s main opposition Congress party has held a march and protest toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi over a question-paper leak.
The program was held on Tuesday, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Congress leaders and activists first gathered at Kharge’s official residence on Rajaji Marg, then marched toward Modi’s official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, a little over one kilometer away.
Congress leaders said the program was aimed at increasing pressure on the central government over the question-paper leak. A day earlier, a march toward Parliament turned violent; police used baton charges and tear gas, and clashes broke out with protesters. At least 178 people were injured and 70 detained.
