At least 13 people, including women, men and a child, were injured when a bus overturned into a ditch in Meherpur.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, in the Wapda Mor area of the town.
Witnesses said a bus was leaving the Meherpur bus stand for Kushtia. As it reached the Wapda Mor area, a truck was taking a U-turn, and the bus, making way for an easy-bike, overturned into a roadside ditch, injuring at least 13 passengers.
Among the injured, Bobita Khatun (45) and Priya Khatun (18) of Taranagar village in Mujibnagar upazila, Ashraful and Milon (18) of Sadar upazila, Renuara Khatun (54) and Jamal Uddin (65) of Chandbil village, and Osman (28) of Dakshin Shalika village were seriously hurt and admitted to Meherpur General Hospital. The rest returned home after first aid.
Meherpur Sadar police officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir said efforts were under way to recover the bus. It was not yet possible to say whether anyone was trapped under it; that would be known after the bus was pulled from the ditch.
