Argentine striker Julian Alvarez reportedly favours a move to Barcelona and considers the Catalan club his first choice for his next transfer, according to Spanish outlet Gigantes FC. The report said Alvarez’s interest in Barcelona increased after hearing Lionel Messi speak positively about the city and the club.
Several leading European clubs — including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal — have also shown interest in signing Alvarez, but Barcelona is said to hold a relative advantage because of the player’s stated preference.
Barcelona officials are said to have already begun working on the feasibility of a transfer and are preparing a formal offer of approximately €130 million to present after the World Cup concludes. The move will not be straightforward, however: Atletico Madrid has made clear that any club wishing to sign Alvarez must meet the €500 million release clause written into his contract. Alvarez is currently playing for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
