Brazilian great Ronaldo Nazario has spoken out in praise of Lionel Messi, calling the Argentine superstar the greatest footballer of all time and saying the world should now accept that reality.
Messi made history with a hat-trick against Algeria in Argentina’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup. The hat-trick, scored at the age of 38, took him level with Miroslav Klose’s record of 16 goals as the all-time top scorer in World Cup history. It also moved him past Brazilian great Ronaldo Nazario.
After Messi’s feat, Ronaldo Nazario said: “Every time Messi steps onto the pitch, everything turns into an aesthetic and historic moment. The time has come for the whole world to stop hiding from it and accept that Messi is the greatest of all time. He keeps performing every season, and at the World Cup too. It is an unforgettable and historic day.”
Messi has dazzled the football world for more than two decades. He has taken his career to unmatched heights with countless club titles, eight Ballon d’Or awards, the Copa America and the 2022 World Cup. With a brilliant start at the 2026 World Cup, he is again proving that age is just a number for him.
Messi’s World Cup goal tally now stands at 16. Just one more goal would make him the outright top scorer in World Cup history. Attention will turn to that record in Argentina’s coming matches.
