Federation President Advocate Atiqur Rahman announced the program at the organization’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka. General Secretary Laskar Md. Taslim and other central leaders attended.

Planned activities include rallies and worker gatherings at the district, upazila and thana levels; nationwide labor gatherings, rallies and discussion meetings led by national unions; rallies and meetings by craft federations and trade unions; leaflet distribution; postering at the central, district, metropolitan, national-union, craft-federation and trade-union levels; and the display of welcome banners and festoons by city, district, upazila, thana and trade-union bodies.

Additional activities will include profession-based worker gatherings, rallies and collective picnics; exchanges with leaders of various labor organizations; meetings with electronic and print media journalists; financial aid to needy and able-bodied workers; employment support for unemployed workers; educational supplies for meritorious students of worker families; food distribution to underprivileged workers; and the distribution of khutbas on workers’ rights and dignity to imams and khatibs.

In his remarks before announcing the program, Rahman said the Workers Welfare Federation has worked since its founding to advance the interests, rights and welfare of workers and to find lasting solutions to their problems. The federation’s leaders have repeatedly faced state harassment for that work, he said.

“Since the federation was founded in 1968, we have not retreated even a step in protecting workers’ interests and securing their rights, and we will not retreat in the future,” Rahman said.
