A muezzin named Md Ibrahim (25) has died of an electric shock in the Stadium Para area of Magura town. The accident happened at about 1am on the night of Thursday (6 August).

The dead muezzin, Ibrahim, was the son of Shukur Bishwas of Barashalai village in Magura Sadar upazila. He worked as the muezzin of the Kazibari mosque in Nanduali Madhyapara.

Ibrahim’s cousin Sohan said Ibrahim had been staying at the Stadium Gate mosque in town with a Tabligh Jamaat group for a three-day period. With no electricity because of load-shedding, he went up to the mosque roof for relief from the heat. There, he was accidentally injured by an electric shock when he came into contact with a main power-line cable running over the mosque roof. He was rescued and taken to Magura 250-bed hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Magura Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the death by electric shock. An unnatural-death case has been filed at Magura Sadar police station.
