The bodies of three children have been recovered in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura — two from Mousha village and one from Kalinagar village.
Two young cousins, a three-year-old girl and a two-year-old girl, were recovered from Mousha village of Mohammadpur upazila on Tuesday morning.
Family sources said the two were playing on the bank of a pond beside their home in the morning. The two-year-old accidentally fell into the water first, and when the three-year-old jumped in to save her, she too went under. Locals soon noticed and rushed both to Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Mohammadpur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abu Ahsan confirmed the two deaths.
Mohammadpur police officer-in-charge Md Shamim Ahmed said a police team was sent to the scene and the hospital, and preparations were under way for an unnatural-death case.
In the other incident, a nine-year-old boy slipped and fell into the Madhumati River on Sunday afternoon while helping his uncle soak jute on the riverbank in Kalinagar village and could not be found. Magura fire service members recovered his body from the Bagbaria area of the river on Tuesday morning. He was a third-grade pupil at a local government primary school.
