Wherever NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari holds an event in the country, the law-and-order situation deteriorates, with order breaking down, the report said. To overcome such situations and the tense atmosphere on Facebook, extra police were deployed. Nearly 200 police were deployed to ensure his security as the main speaker at an Eid reunion and joining event at Chhengarchar in Chandpur’s Matlab Uttar upazila. Matlab Uttar police OC (investigation) Pradip Mondal confirmed the matter.

The upazila administration also worked in the field for the past few days to ensure the meeting’s security, and upazila assistant commissioner (land) Hedayet Ullah was seen on duty near the venue. On Friday (5 June) afternoon, Patwari spoke as the main speaker at the Eid reunion and the joining of people from various political parties into the NCP, held at the Chhengarchar Government Model High School grounds. NCP chief organiser Sarjis Alam spoke as chief guest.

NCP Matlab Uttar upazila member-secretary Imadul Islam said that, in light of statements and threats made on Facebook in recent days to target rival political parties, Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md Rabiul Hasan held repeated meetings the day before the event with local political leaders, people of various professions and Matlab Uttar police to ensure security. To ensure Patwari’s safety, his Friday prayers and lunch venue was moved from the distant Farazikandi area to a spot near the venue.
