The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has called peaceful protests across India on Friday, July 24, over the leak of the medical entrance exam (NEET) papers and other issues. The CJP announced this in a post on the social-media platform X on Thursday.

The party also renewed its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. It called on citizens in cities and villages across India to join the protests, aiming to turn the ongoing movement into an all-India mass movement.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already pledged “exemplary punishment” for those involved in the NEET paper leak, saying: “The most important thing for us is the welfare and bright future of the young.” Even after that pledge, the movement shows no sign of stopping.

Students and young people had been joining the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar in the capital in growing numbers since Thursday morning, with people from various walks of life taking part in the student gathering.

The Indian government has deployed large numbers of police and paramilitary forces as a precaution. Clashes between police and protesters had made the Jantar Mantar area tense on Wednesday night. The situation there was somewhat subdued on Thursday morning, though crowds kept growing. Sixteen Delhi metro stations have been closed indefinitely from 7:30 a.m. for “security reasons.”
