‘Krishi Katha,’ a popular monthly magazine published by the Agriculture Information Service, has played an important role in carrying farming information and technology to farmers. For outstanding success in signing up subscribers, the Nandigram upazila agriculture office secured the highest number in the Bogura region and earned special recognition.

For enrolling the most subscribers, 1,393, among the upazilas of the Bogura region in the 1432 Bengali year, upazila agriculture officer Md. Gaziul Haque was honored and given an award.

Gaziul Haque formally received the award from Md. Mosihar Rahman, director of the Agriculture Information Service, at an event on June 12.

The ‘Krishi Katha’ magazine has played an important role in making farmers aware of modern farming technology, improved cultivation methods, crop management, pest control, agricultural entrepreneurship development and government farming services, according to sources.

To carry farming information to more farmers by increasing the magazine’s subscribers, the Nandigram upazila agriculture office undertook extensive efforts, which led to the achievement.

According to the upazila agriculture office, sub-assistant agriculture officers highlighted the importance of the ‘Krishi Katha’ magazine as part of field-level agricultural extension work, through regular contact with farmers, farming meetings, courtyard sessions, field days and technology demonstrations. As a result, farmers’ interest in the magazine grew and subscriber numbers rose.

After receiving the award, upazila agriculture officer Md. Gaziul Haque said: “This achievement is not mine alone. It is the result of the combined effort of all the officials and staff of the Nandigram upazila agriculture department and the farmers. We will continue working in future to carry modern farming knowledge and technology to farmers.”

Those connected with agriculture believe such recognition will further encourage field-level agriculture officers in their work and play an important role in spreading farming information and technology. They said it would also contribute positively to raising output and sustainable agricultural development by carrying reliable farming information to farmers.

Farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs and various local groups expressed satisfaction at the Nandigram upazila agriculture office’s achievement and congratulated the officials involved.
