A devastating fire at Foltita Bazar in Bagerhat’s Fakirhat upazila has burned 13 small and large shops to ashes. A fire service team brought the blaze under control after roughly two hours of effort.
Fire service officials, affected shopkeepers and local residents said the fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 19. Within moments, flames spread in every direction.
After being alerted, a Fakirhat fire service team arrived at the scene and worked to put out the blaze. The fire was brought under control after roughly two hours. In the process, 13 shops, along with the cash, goods and other belongings inside them, were reduced to ashes.
The shops included two sweet shops, two rice-meal restaurants, two grocery stores, one fast-food shop, and other food stalls.
Affected shopkeepers, including Arif Sheikh, Md Bakkar, Nimai and Rup Saha, said they came to their shops around 4:00 a.m. after being alerted and found everything burned to ashes.
Md Shahjahan Mia, acting station officer of Fakirhat Fire Service and Civil Defence, said: “This fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. After being alerted, we arrived at the scene quickly and brought the fire under control after roughly two hours of effort.”
