Bangladesh has made a major reshuffle of police commissioners, range deputy inspector generals, district superintendents of police and deputy commissioners of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Four separate notifications issued by the Police-1 branch of the Home Ministry transferred or reassigned 23 officers from the Bangladesh Civil Service police cadre.
The orders, signed by Home Ministry Deputy Secretary Towsif Ahmed on Wednesday, were issued by order of the president and were to take effect immediately in the public interest.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DIG) Mohammad Abdul Mabud was posted as DIG of the Rangpur Range, while Industrial Police DIG Mohammad Zulfikar Ali Haider was posted as DIG of the Barishal Range. MRT Police Superintendent Dr Kaniz Hossain Jahan was posted to the NPBEN as superintendent.
RAB Additional DIG Mohammad Saleh Uddin was transferred as Highway Police additional DIG, and Highway Police Additional DIG Mir Moddacher Hossain was transferred to the additional DIG post at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi.
At district level, Kushtia SP Mohammad Jasim Uddin was made Gazipur SP; SP Mohammad Aminul Islam of the Sylhet Range DIG office was made Kushtia SP; and Police Staff College SP Sarker Omar Faruk was posted as Khulna SP. Khulna’s current SP Mohammad Tajul Islam was transferred to APBN.
Gazipur SP Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Narayanganj SP Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munsi, PBI SP Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman and APBN SP Dipak Jyoti Khisa were posted as Highway Police superintendents. Four officers were posted as DMP deputy commissioners: Barishal Metropolitan Police’s Mohammad Sharfuddin, APBN’s Mohammad Abdul Wahab, Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Mohammad Akhtar Hossain and CID Special SP Mohammad Towhidul Arif.
Special Branch supernumerary Additional DIG Mohammad Shahinur Alam Khan was made SB superintendent, while Additional SP Mohammad Jahangir Alam was transferred to Noakhali Police Training Centre. MRT SP Dr Kaniz Hossain Jahan was also posted to APBN, and Highway Police SP Mohammad Rezaul Karim was posted as an APBN SP. SB Special SP Zerin Akhtar was transferred to Tangail PTC, and Mohammad Ehsan Sattar was posted as supernumerary additional DIG at Khulna PTC.
Home Ministry sources said the transfers and postings were intended to improve the police administration’s dynamism and serve the public interest.
