The Bangladesh Technical Education Board has served show-cause notices on 621 technical educational institutions in the country for not admitting students for a long time. They have been asked to explain in writing within the next seven days why their admission activities should not be suspended and their approval to conduct teaching cancelled or withdrawn. Of these, 443 institutions are in the SSC vocational curriculum and 178 in the Dakhil vocational curriculum.

The information was given in a Technical Education Board notice on Friday, July 24. The heads of the institutions concerned have been informed of the matter.

It said that institutions under the SSC (vocational) and Dakhil (vocational) curricula of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board that have not been admitting students for a long time had been given notice on the website to explain by 22 July why their admission activities should not be suspended from the 2026-27 academic year and their teaching approval cancelled or withdrawn. Explanations were received from some institutions, but the rest have to date given no explanation of any kind.

It further said that the listed institutions that have not yet given an explanation are requested, as directed, to provide an explanation on the matter within the next seven working days.

Under sub-rules 4.2, 4.4 and 5.4 of the 2024 policy on the establishment of private technical educational institutions and the granting of teaching approval and recognition for conducting the SSC (vocational) curriculum under the Technical Education Board, if an institution fails within the set time to meet the conditions imposed at the time teaching permission was granted and other applicable conditions — on admission, results, infrastructure, the appointment of teachers and staff, the management committee, furniture, equipment and the library — the board may, with the government’s approval, cancel or withdraw the institution’s teaching permission.
