Police have recovered the body of an elderly man, identified as Brinchi Mondal, 80, from the Betagi River in the Lata union of Khulna’s Paikgachha. The body was recovered early Monday (June 15).

Mondal was the son of the late Mahendra Mondal of Patulakhali village in the upazila.

Police and local residents said the body was seen floating early Monday near the Sardar house at Bahirbunia on the Betagi River, and residents informed the police. Local people later identified him.

Mondal’s son, Ujjwal Mondal, said his father had been suffering from mental health problems for some time. He left home around 9 p.m. on Sunday (June 14) and did not return. Ujjwal Mondal identified his father’s body after hearing of it from local people on Monday morning.
