Education minister warns of legal action against fake news about exams

Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haq Milon said legal action will be taken against anyone spreading misinformation about examinations.

He made the remarks at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday (July 1), held to outline measures for conducting the HSC and equivalent examinations 2026 in a fair, orderly, and cheating-free environment.

He added that any misinformation about examinations circulated on social media will be verified and legal action will follow.

Also present were Prime Minister’s education adviser Mahdi Amin, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleq.

A total of 1,270,583 students are registered for the examinations this year. Of these, 1,069,714 are under the secondary and higher secondary education boards, 92,905 under the madrasa board, and 107,964 under the technical board. Male students number 621,969 and female students 648,614. The examinations will be held across 2,697 centers from 9,439 institutions. Nine general education boards will use a common question paper. All centers have been equipped with CCTV cameras, and a CCTV monitoring cell has been established at the Ministry of Education. Police officers assigned to centers will carry body-worn cameras. The examinations will cover 77 subjects over 21 days. On days when no examination is held, regular classes will continue at institutions.
