PSC chairman resigns

Professor Mobasshar Monem has resigned as chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), citing health reasons. He submitted his resignation letter Tuesday, August 18.

Asked about the matter, PSC public relations officer S M Motiur Rahman said: “Sir has resigned. He resigned due to physical illness.”

Professor Mobasshar Monem was appointed PSC chairman in October 2024, during the interim government’s tenure.

Asked about the chairman’s condition and his resignation, the chairman’s personal secretary, Md Shahriar Rahman, said: “Sir (the chairman) is currently resting.”

During the interim government formed after the 2024 uprising, the then-PSC chairman, Md Sohrab Hossain, along with 12 PSC members, had resigned.

Professor Mobasshar Monem, of Dhaka University’s Department of Public Administration, was subsequently appointed PSC chairman.
