A high-level delegation of the European Union (EU) has met Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP and chief whip of the opposition. The delegation was led by EU Ambassador Michael Miller. The meeting was held on Tuesday at the NCP’s central party office.
The meeting discussed in detail the implementation of the important reforms approved in the recent referendum, and reviewed the guidance of the EU election observation team for ensuring transparent and credible elections. The two sides also exchanged views on the institutional framework ahead of the coming local government elections. At the close, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the dialogue and strengthening constructive international cooperation.
After the meeting, NCP leaders showed the EU delegation the graffiti of the historic July revolution, presenting the hopes and spirit of the young people of that time. Also present were the NCP’s international affairs secretary Alauddin Mohammad and joint convener Monira Sharmin; the EU delegation included deputy head of delegation Baiba Zarina and first secretary (political) Sebastian Rieger-Brown.
