The Department of Narcotics Control has held a workshop with teachers to make all of Natore’s educational institutions drug-free.

At the workshop, held at the Department of Narcotics Control’s Natore district office around midday on Wednesday (June 17), the keynote paper was presented by Rifa Raonak Nitu, deputy director of the department’s district office.

District Education Officer Md. Rostom Ali Helali spoke as chief guest. Md. Shahidul Haque Sarkar, president of the Natore Press Club and a correspondent for Jugantor, spoke as the main discussant.

The event was moderated by Md. Raihan Mia, prosecutor of the Department of Narcotics Control’s Natore district office. Md. Riazul Islam, deputy director of the Islamic Foundation in Natore, and inspector Khandaker Najim Uddin spoke as special guests.

Among the participating teachers who spoke were Sirajul Islam, an assistant teacher at Natore Government Boys’ High School; M.A. Selim, assistant head teacher of the school section of Maharaja Jagadindra Nath High School and College; and Habibur Rahman, an assistant teacher at Nowpara High School.

The speakers pledged to make every effort, each from their own position, to keep students away from drug addiction — through building good relationships rather than discipline — in order to save the country’s next generation from the menace of drugs.

Teachers from various secondary educational institutions across the district’s seven upazilas took part in the workshop. The participating teachers will serve as mentors to eliminate drugs at their respective institutions in the days ahead.
