Boy, 12, electrocuted while charging auto-rickshaw in Nalchity; second child critically injured

A 12-year-old boy was electrocuted and killed in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokathi while an electrical connection was being made to charge an auto-rickshaw. A second child, nine, was critically injured in the same incident.

The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, August 21, in the Deopasha area of Ward 5, Siddhakathi union, in the upazila.

According to local sources, the two children were accidentally electrocuted while an electrical connection was being made to charge an auto-rickshaw in Deopasha village.

They were critically injured, and local residents quickly rescued them and took them to Nalchity Upazila Health Complex.

After examining the boy, the attending physician pronounced him dead.

The second child, nine, was in critical condition and was given initial treatment before being referred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

Touhidul Zaman Sohag, officer-in-charge of Nalchity police station, said legal proceedings over the incident are under way.
