Bangladesh police officers began wearing new uniforms on Wednesday, with Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed among the first to appear in the new attire at the inauguration of the Borkau Police Camp in Purbachal.

The IGP wore khaki trousers with a dark blue shirt, while the DMP commissioner wore khaki trousers with a light olive-green shirt — the two uniform combinations for the force.

The interim government formed after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, had changed the police uniform. After the BNP formed the government in February, it announced a reversal of the interim government’s decision. Police headquarters issued a gazette notification on June 18 finalizing the new colors.

Under the notification, district and unit police will wear dark blue shirts, while all metropolitan police will wear light olive-green shirts. All officers will wear khaki trousers. The Armed Police Battalion, Special Police Battalion, Special Branch, CID, and RAB are exempt and will retain their existing uniforms.

Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam said not all officers have received the new uniforms yet, but they will be distributed to all personnel in phases.

The change marks the return of the khaki color to police uniforms after approximately 22 years.
