The government has deployed a total of 5,000 enlisted Ansar members to 500 upazila health complexes and similar healthcare facilities across the country to strengthen security. The Home Ministry has directed that the necessary administrative, financial, and implementation activities be completed for this purpose.
The deployment became effective from Wednesday (July 1). The Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party has been directed to implement the deployment and submit a report to the Home Ministry upon completion.
The directives were issued in two separate letters from the ministry’s Ansar Branch-2.
The letters state that on the prime minister’s directive, 10 enlisted Ansar members will be deployed at each of the country’s 500 upazila health complexes, including five newly formed upazilas, to make healthcare services safer, uninterrupted, and more people-friendly.
At health complexes where Ansar members are already serving, the existing members will be coordinated to ensure a total of 10 Ansar personnel at each facility.
The letters further state that the annual cost for 5,000 Ansar members’ salaries and allowances will be approximately 1.19 billion taka. A proposal has already been sent to the Finance Division to allocate this amount under the Ansar and VDP’s designated budget code rather than the relevant ministry’s allocation.
The Ansar members’ salaries and allowances will be disbursed through the Home Ministry with the Health Services Division’s consent.
The letters, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Monirul Hasan, have been copied to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Health Services Division, and relevant departments.
Officials said this initiative will strengthen security at upazila-level government healthcare facilities, ensure a safe working environment for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers, and allow patients and their families to receive healthcare services in a more secure setting.
