ACC’s new chairman, two commissioners take up posts

Justice A K M Asaduzzaman, the new chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and two new commissioners, Jahangir Alam Khan and Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, have joined the commission. They will begin regular duties at the ACC office starting Wednesday, August 19.

ACC Secretary Saidur Rahman disclosed the information Tuesday, August 18, in response to reporters’ questions at the commission’s head office.

The ACC secretary said a long wait had come to an end. He said the gazette notification appointing the new chairman and two commissioners was published Monday, with the government making the appointments through a search committee.

He said the new chairman and two commissioners joined the Cabinet Division at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the cabinet secretary acting as the intermediary in the process of their appointment being submitted to the president. He said they would report to the ACC office starting Wednesday to formally take up their responsibilities and begin work.

“A new chapter begins for the ACC starting tomorrow,” the secretary said. “Whatever expectations you have, they will be met. Tomorrow morning, they will hold a meeting with our officials.”

The notification appointing retired Supreme Court Justice A K M Asaduzzaman was issued Monday, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani. The notification states that, under section 7(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Justice A K M Asaduzzaman has been appointed chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, with Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan appointed as commissioners.
