A mother and daughter riding a motorcycle were killed after being run over by a truck while on their way to a wedding celebration in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur. The woman’s husband, the girl’s father, was critically injured in the incident. The truck fled the scene after the accident.
The accident occurred around 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, in front of Ghoraghat Filling Station on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway.
The dead are the mother, Sampa Begum, and her daughter, Nusaifa Akter.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, Selim Sarkar was riding a motorcycle from his home with his wife, Sampa, and daughter, Nusaifa, to attend a wedding celebration at his son-in-law’s house in the Hamidpur Chittipara area of Ghoraghat. Along the way, as they reached the front of Ghoraghat Filling Station, a truck struck their motorcycle from behind. Selim, his wife and daughter were thrown onto the road. Sampa and Nusaifa were run over by the truck’s wheels and died at the scene. Selim was critically injured.
Ghoraghat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the accident, saying the victims’ relatives have been notified. The family has informed police that it will not pursue any legal action over the incident.
