About 1,000 chickens have died in a night-time wild-animal attack on a poultry farm in Damurhuda, Chuadanga.

The incident happened on Friday (31 July) at the Hasan Poultry Farm, across from Darshana Halt Station in the upazila.

The farm’s owner, Md Hasan, said his farm currently has about 18,000 to 20,000 chickens of various breeds. At some point on Friday night, a wild animal entered the farm and attacked the birds. In the morning he found hundreds of dead chickens; a count later showed about 1,000 had died.

He said the incident had caused him a financial loss of about 400,000 to 500,000 taka (roughly $3,300 to $4,200). After such a loss, he is anxious about running the farm.

Local residents said wild animals are sometimes seen roaming the area, and demanded necessary measures to protect farms and livestock.
