Vozinha single-handedly denied wave after wave of Argentine attacks throughout the match, making 8 saves including 5 from Lionel Messi. After Argentina’s 3-2 victory, an emotional moment unfolded as the Argentine captain embraced the Cape Verde goalkeeper before leaving the pitch.
Describing the exchange, Vozinha said: “After the final whistle, I approached Messi myself. He hugged me tightly and said: ‘You played brilliantly. Your people should be proud of you today.’ Hearing those words from a legend like Leo Messi will remain one of the most special and emotional moments of my career.”
In response to Messi’s praise, Vozinha thanked him and said: “Thank you, Leo. You are the greatest of all time.” The Cape Verde goalkeeper then asked to exchange jerseys, and Messi happily agreed, saying he would hand over his shirt in the tunnel after completing his post-match interview.
An emotional Vozinha added: “We fought toe to toe against the world champions today and even had chances to win. We are proud. This memory will be etched in my heart forever. I hope our fight today inspires the next generation in our country to dream of playing in the world’s best leagues.”
