One person has died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 153 patients were admitted to hospital during the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said. The previous day, Thursday, three people died and 467 were infected.
That brings the total number of dengue cases this month to 9,206, with 36 deaths, according to a DGHS press release issued Friday by its Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room.
Between 8 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday, hospital admissions included 4 in Barishal division (outside the city corporation), 69 in Chattogram division, 50 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 11 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 15 in Dhaka South City Corporation and 4 in Khulna division. During the same period, 154 patients recovered and were discharged.
The DGHS said the total number of dengue cases from January to now has risen to 15,310, with 54 deaths this year — 2 in January, 2 in February, 1 in May, 13 in June and 36 in July. Dhaka division has recorded the most deaths, 25, while Barishal division has the most cases, 3,312. Of all those infected so far, 61.5 percent are male and 38.5 percent female.
