A month-long dengue-prevention campaign has begun in the capital to involve the public in controlling the spread of the mosquito-borne disease. The drive was inaugurated on Saturday (July 11) morning at the South Goran playground in Khilgaon by Habibur Rashid Habib, the member of parliament for Dhaka-9 and state minister for road transport and railways.

Government or city corporation efforts alone were not enough to prevent dengue, he said; what was needed was a social movement. He urged every citizen to keep their own home and yard clean.

After the inauguration, an awareness rally circled roads in Khilgaon, South Goran and surrounding areas in the state minister’s presence. Local leaders, volunteers and residents took part spontaneously.
