Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Allama Mamunul Haque has launched a new book, “Why Is July Our Struggle?” and said there was no room for compromise in his party’s support for the July uprising.

The book was launched at a Thursday afternoon event at the party’s Darul Khilafah auditorium in Dhaka.

It examines the party’s position on the July uprising, the referendum, constitutional reform, the role of Islamist groups and contemporary political issues, organizers said.

Mamunul Haque said the book explained why his party had supported the uprising and must continue to do so. He criticized what he described as efforts to weaken the contribution and aspirations of Qawmi scholars in the movement.

He said the strongest reason his party had not formed an electoral alliance with BNP was BNP’s alleged position against July. That was a political claim by the party leader.

National Citizen Party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said the history of July was being changed and the July museum had been opened in a distorted form. Writer and researcher Musa Al Hafiz said the book should be regarded as a leading account of the uprising. Those were the speakers’ views.
