The 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a continuous 36-day programme running from 1 July to 5 August to mark the anniversary of the July mass uprising and press for the implementation of the July Charter.

Jamaat assistant secretary general Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programme on behalf of the alliance at a press conference at Jamaat’s central office in Mogbazar, Dhaka on Thursday (June 25).

The press conference said the programme was designed to raise public awareness about the July mass uprising, build support for implementing the July Charter, and intensify demands for accountability for enforced disappearances and killings carried out by the previous government.

The schedule includes seminars in all districts and divisional cities from 1 to 5 July, and art exhibitions and graffiti-painting events on 23, 24 and 25 July. Commemorative gatherings will also be held at sites significant to the July uprising. On the final day, 5 August, protest rallies will be held in districts, upazilas and divisional cities across the country.
